Esoteric Astrology, Part VII The Soul`s Purpose
Published in Paperback by Baker Publications ()
Author: Douglas M. Baker
Average review score:

The Soul's Purpose
Mundane (exoteric) astrology focuses on the personality, through the Sun sign, whereas true Esoteric Astrology focuses on the Soul's Purpose, mainly through the ascendant sign. This work by the Master Astrologer Dr. Douglas Baker covers the ascendant sign for about half of the signs, with the other half in Part VIII of the same title. Baker parses the aspects of each of the 12 (ascendant) rising signs and gives significant insight into unfolding the Soul's Purpose to anyone with the same rising sign. A very deep work and a must for any esoteric astrologer.

Esoteric Healing, Part III

A CLASSIC
This amazing book is divided into the sections: Stress Disorders, Flower remedies, Alcoholism and The Completion of Cycles, but it deals with much more, like symbols, their use in meditation, the Cell Salts of Dr Schuessler, the platonic solids, and even astral vampirism! The section on the Bach Flower Remedies is the most interesting and informative I have ever found on the subject and contains beautiful color and black & white illustrations of the plants concerned, plus a striking illustration of how the vibrations in the remedies swirl in and around the body after you've taken them. Instructions on how to prepare the remedies are provided. The next section deals with alcoholism, its esoteric significance and healing. Some of the text can only be understood if one is familiar with the vocabulary of Theosophy (rays, etc), but other parts are easier to grasp - a relevant letter of Carl Jung is printed in full. This sections also contains impressive illustrations, the most frightening of which is an instance of astral vampires attaching an alcoholic in sleep. Treatments for alcoholism are given with special reference to psychology and the flower remedies. This is followed by a long illuminating section on the Vagus nerve (Man's Psychic Aerial) and the charkas. The work concludes with an essay on holistic methods of healing and there are fold-out maps of the flower remedies and their use, ear-stimulation acupuncture points and feet-massage reflexology points. A very impressive work to be read again and again, and an essential reference work for practitioners of alternative healing.

Evangelical Dictionary of World Missions (Baker Reference Library)
Published in Hardcover by Baker Book House (September, 2000)
Authors: A. Scott Moreau, Harold, A. Netland, Charles Edward Van Engen, and David Burnett
Average review score:

Everything you wanted to know about missions
Imagine assembling over 300 missionaries, mission leaders and professors of missions to ask them any question you wanted. Now imagine that they addressed over 1400 topics. This new encyclopedic dictionary has done just that. With 700 topical articles, almost 500 short biographical articles, and hundreds of country profiles, the Evangelical Dictionary of World Missions is a veritable goldmine of up-to-date information on missions.

The authors include people from East and West, North and South; practioners and teachers. All have written in non-technical vocabulary and evaluate their assigned topic(s) in light of evangelical thought. The book is decidedly Christian and missiological in tone.

There are short bibliographical notes at the end of many articles and a good indexing system.

Dive in anywhere and enjoy the learning experience.

Every Good Gift

Awesome Testimony of Gods goodness
This book is full of awesome testimonies of the Lords faithfulness to a very courageous group of poeple. The true life accounts in this book give testimony to the sufficiency of God to meet every one of our needs in times of trials and suffering! To praise HIM in the midst of trials and persecution...To know his peace that is not contingent on where we eat or what we sleep on or what we are made to do....This is a book about people still alive today who have risked everything and won the greatest gift, to be in the Presence of God! I recommend this book to new Christians and people who have been walking with God all of there lives. You will never be the same again! Oh Lord if we could just throw off the comforts of the world that so easily hinder us from receiving every good gift that HE has for us. This book was stunning and powrful the first time around and it remains one of my favorite devotionals that refreshes my spirit and reminds me in just a couple of pages of what really matters in my Christian walk with Jesus..

Fifty Years of Collectible Fashion Jewelry 1925-1975

The inside to vintage fashion jewelry collectibles
This book was very informative. It gave the information I needed about some collectible jewelry I am accumulating. It gives a more in-depth history of the manufacturing of many collectible brands than other books I have seen. I would highly recommend this book for vintage jewelry collectors.

Finding Signs
Published in Paperback by Warner Books (October, 1991)
Author: Sharlene Baker
Average review score:

better than On The Road
I've spent so much time trying to find a book like this. Finding Signs is about the potential for adventure in life. Set in the 70s, it is similar in style to On The Road, but Finding Signs, written by a woman, delves far deeper into the philosophy behind the archetypal wanderer. This book is truly a masterpiece and I am crushed that Sharlene Baker has not written anything else.

A Fine Madness
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (September, 1986)
Author: Elliott Baker
Average review score:

Story of a poet who find trouble in a world he doesnt fit in
Samson Shillitoe finds A Fine Madness in a world he understands all to well. An unexpected poet, the gruff Shillitoe upsets his wife, his landlord, his boss, a lawyer, a psychologist, a cop, and every woman he meets in this cockamamy tale. But one of the most interesting parts is the way Baker tells the story. He writes it like a narrator following, not one character, but different charcters at different times. A bit sexy at some times, but great book for any poet. Also a movie.

Finster Frets
Published in Paperback by Stoddart Kids (August, 1996)
Authors: Kent Baker and Heinz Werner Zimmermann
Average review score:

Most enjoyable. My children loved it.
A zany riot of language and image. My children were going around the house for days mouthing "Finsterisms." I recommend the book without reservation for children and adults alike. Neither you nor your kids will soon forget the adventures of Finster and Holly Berry.
